About
Why we built Simple Terms.
We are lawyers who work with contractors, builders, developers, people, goods sellers, service providers, government, boards, directors, designers, architects. We help people set up their new business with contract templates and navigate ongoing projects.
Across all of it, we keep coming across the same thing. People avoid lawyers because they were too expensive (until it was too late, and then it was really expensive), and then used or signed contracts they didn’t understand. Sometimes people just copy someone else’s contract for use in their business and don’t notice that they have got a lot of personal liability in what they thought was a normal document. Contracts are often long, too detailed, full of cross-references, and written for lawyers. That’s unhelpful for the people using them who aren’t lawyers. Disputes were usually disagreements about scope and different views of what the words in the contract said, not disputes about law.
We built Simple Terms to fix that. Short, plain English documents you can read, explain to the other side and actually agree on. One low price, no software, no sales calls.
We use these templates ourselves, and we keep them up to date as the law and practice change.
If you’ve put off a contract because it felt too hard, or you don’t like lawyers, we hope Simple Terms helps.
